Campaigns
Health and wellness programming on our campus is vibrant due in large part to donations that the Foundation receives to support a remarkable quality of life. This programming includes transportation services, art, library, music, technology, fitness, field trips, gardening, lectures, spiritual, and more.
Capital Projects
The Foundation funds capital projects from time to time that helps maintain excellence on our campus.
Employee Assistance
Assistance for our colleagues, such as educational scholarships, emergency support, child development tuition assistance, and leadership development are beloved programs our donors are eager to support.
Unrestricted Donations
Unrestricted donations are always welcome, as they give our Foundation board the ability to support worthy unplanned projects that come up throughout the year.
Opportunities to Volunteer
Volunteers from the local community help residents engage in activities including exercise, art, small groups, and games. Others participate in large events like concerts, parties, and holiday decorating. Additional opportunities to volunteer include sharing musical talents, bringing a certified therapy pet for a visit, or spending time one-on-one with a resident reading a book, writing letters, visiting the Glacier Hills Library, or taking a stroll around campus. In addition, those interested in serving in a spiritual capacity will find many opportunities.

The fall/winter application is released in May and the spring/summer application is released in December.

The Glacier Hills Foundation now offers a program called the Employee Plus Scholarship Program. This program is intended to support the educational pursuits of the children of Glacier Hills employees. The program is supported by private gifts to the Glacier Hills Foundation. The Employee Plus scholarships follow the same cycles as the employee scholarships (fall/winter and spring/summer). Two scholarships will be awarded annually, one each cycle, up to $2,500.

Dementia Education Series
Dementia Education
Understanding the progression of the disease and its effects on behavior requires specific employee and caregiver training. Ongoing professional training for dementia care is an area of critical importance at Glacier Hills. We wish to deliver a highly effective and progressive care program to our residents and their families. Care for those challenged with dementia affects all resident areas in an aging services residential community, as it is estimated that approximately 70% of the resident population in any life plan community has some form of cognitive decline or dementia.
In our experience, the most successful approach to this type of training includes staff at all levels (caregiving to administrative), family members, and the greater community.
Glacier Hills offers the Walter J. Weber, Jr. Dementia Education Series. This program provides education and ongoing training to direct caregiving staff, support staff, family members, all residents at Glacier Hills, members of the greater community and other area aging services organizations.

About Walter J. Weber, Jr., Ph.D.
Walter J. Weber Jr.. Ph.D. was a world-renowned scientist in the area of environmental engineering, known for developing systems to provide clean water worldwide. He earned a Ph.D. from Harvard University and retired as a Distinguished University Professor Emeritus at the University of Michigan, where he graduated more than 75 Ph.D. students. His pursuit was drinkable water; his passions were teaching and education. His efforts in water purification and sustainability remain alive today.
Professor Weber passed away in 2018 from complications of Alzheimer's disease. He was a resident of Huron Woods at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, which transitioned to Glacier Hills the following spring.
The Weber family has donated funds to establish education and training in the Positive Approach to Care® techniques. The result will be comprehensive training and support for employees and family as we establish Glacier Hills as a premier center for dementia education.
“I chose to volunteer at Glacier Hills because I had visited the facility before and had been impressed with the facility and staff. My expectations were exceeded when I began volunteering. Staff were friendly, helpful and approachable. Patients were happy and viewed Glacier Hills as their home. The facility had undergone renovations resulting in a most pleasant physical environment. My biggest reward is my interactions with the residents. Everyone has a story, has lived an interesting life and are willing to let me in. I feel privileged to be able to share time with them. Volunteer coordinators have made volunteering easy. I felt doubly rewarded by the support and thanks that they have given me. I want to visit often!”
