Community Opportunities
Community Amenities
There really is so much to do here that you’ll never need to leave campus. But our activities calendar always includes day trips and shopping adventures if you’d like to get out. While we can’t list them all, some of the things our residents really enjoy are our special events and parties, musical programs and movies, our library and art gallery and the ever-popular billiards room, bocce ball and croquet court.
Art Gallery
On the third floor of The Manor, you’ll find one of Glacier Hills’ gems: a dedicated art gallery. Take time to enjoy an exhibition and be inspired by the power of dreamers and creators. If you’re an art lover, you’ll find lots of kindred spirits in our community. Join them at our lecture series or for excursions to galleries and museums in culture-rich Ann Arbor.
Library
Bibliophiles, unite! The Glacier Hills Library is a lovely spot to explore when you’re looking for your next great read. You’ll find a great selection of books, and knowledgeable librarians ready to assist you with recommendations and resources. All year long, we offer author talks and academic lectures to keep you engaged in stimulating discussions and new discoveries.
Lifelong Learning
Can’t seem to quench that thirst for knowledge? Residents at Glacier Hills benefit not only from book clubs, writing groups, and life enrichment activities, but also from a robust calendar of fascinating speakers. Our proximity to the University of Michigan provides us with such a terrific advantage in bringing in lecturers from the faculty of one of our nation’s finest institutions of higher learning. Take part in discussions about current events, emerging breakthroughs in science, health, and environmental studies… or ignite a newfound passion in a discipline that’s brand new to you. Then, grab a snack and head for our Michigan Room – filled with University of Michigan memorabilia – and chat about it all with friends and neighbors.
Let Us Entertain You
Just wait until you see the roster of performances lined up for you! Whether your tastes run to musical theatre, classic films, or opera, you’ll have many opportunities for cultural appreciation in The Hanson Room, on our lush grounds, or on quick trips to local theatres and music venues. And don’t be surprised if friends and family start asking to join you at the extraordinarily popular annual Glacier Hills Hilltop Music Festival!
Gather & Connect
Feeling social? Glacier Hills is the place to be! Get active and involved, whether on our resident association board, committees, or simply by attending some of our social, art, academic, or spiritual offerings. We warmly welcome new neighbors into our community.
Get Active
Getting active doesn’t have to mean breaking a sweat! Join us around the piano, enjoy musical performances, attend educational presentations and guest lecturers, or try your hand at a craft. Our happy hour is the perfect time to pull up a chair and relax in the company of longtime and new friends.
Get Involved
Like to be a part of your community decision-making? We are a resident-focused community with an active Residents Association and committees that have a voice in everything from dining options to activity planning on campus. Know that as a Glacier Hills resident, your voice will be heard and can effect important change.
Nurture Your Spirit
Glacier Hills residents come from a variety of faith traditions and spiritual practices, and we honor that diversity. We offer interfaith services, Bible study, meditation space, and individual home visits from our Chaplain upon request. If there is a religious practice or tradition that is important to you, it’s important to us. Feel free to talk with our Chaplain about ways we can meet your needs or help you explore your own spiritual path.
Personal Health & Wellness
We strongly encourage our residents to work on their whole selves. Which is why we promote the six dimensions of wellness here at Glacier Hills: physical, social, vocational, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual. In each of these areas, we offer a variety of classes and sessions to help you achieve your wellness goals.
The Wellness Connection at Glacier Hills
The Wellness Connection at Glacier Hills is our recently-remodeled resident fitness center. Thoughtfully designed for older adult clientele, it features NuStep step machines, treadmills, an adaptive motion trainer, and a Concept 2 rowing machine for cardio workouts. For those seeking resistance training, The Wellness Center offers Keiser equipment, free weights, TRX equipment, and balance and flexibility equipment like the BOSU trainer and stability balls.
Access to Trainers and Therapy
Some residents work with physical therapists and personal trainers in our Wellness Connection to continue progressing on exercise or PT goals. Talk with our team about à la carte options for personal training or group training.

If you love to drive, by all means, bring your car! Our residents enjoy hopping on our shuttles to get around campus as well as attend outings to popular regional amenities.
