Walter J. Weber Jr., Ph.D.
Walter J. Weber Jr. was a world-renowned scientist in the area of environmental engineering, known for developing systems to provide clean water worldwide. He earned a Ph.D. from Harvard University and retired as a Distinguished University Professor Emeritus at the University of Michigan, where he graduated over 75 Ph.D. students. His pursuit was drinkable water; his passions were teaching and education. His efforts in water purification and sustainability remain alive today.
Professor Weber passed away in October of 2018 from complications of Alzheimer's disease. He was a resident of Huron Woods at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, which transitioned to Glacier Hills the following spring.
Glacier Hills was fortunate to have the benefit of inheriting Professor Weber's family during that transition – his four daughters and significant other. As a result, the Weber family has donated funds to establish education and training in the Positive Approach to Care® techniques. The result will be comprehensive training and support for employees and family, as we establish Glacier Hills as a premier center for dementia education.
