Dementia Education Series
Ongoing professional training for dementia care is an area of critical importance at Glacier Hills. We wish to deliver a highly effective and progressive care program to our residents and their families, at all levels. Care for those challenged with dementia affects all resident areas in an aging services residential community, as it is estimated that approximately 70% of the resident population in any continuing care retirement community have some form of cognitive decline or dementia. Understanding the progression of the disease and its effects on behavior requires the most specific employee and caregiver training.
A national leader in the field of education for dementia caregiving is Teepa Snow and her Positive Approach to Care® model. In our experience, the most successful approach to this type of training includes staff at all levels (caregiving to administrative), family members, and the greater community.
With inclusiveness as our foundation, Glacier Hills is launching the Walter J. Weber Jr. Dementia Education Series in the summer of 2021. The series will provide education and ongoing training to direct caregiving staff, support staff, family members, all residents at Glacier Hills, members of the greater community and other area aging services organizations.
