Creating a Healthier Community
It is our mission and commitment to serve the poor and underserved. We recognize that nutrition plays a large part in the health and wellness of low-income seniors. Loneliness is also a leading contributor to declining health in our elderly population, so we decided it was time to launch a program focused on combining health and nutrition education, and developing relationships in and out of the community for those we serve. We are Creating a Healthier SanctuaryTM.
In conjunction with UNIDINE corporation, TSLC's dining services provider, each TSLC-managed HUD community in southeastern Michigan will hold programs with registered dieticians and executive chefs educating on safe food preparation, healthy eating, chronic disease management and food choice education, as well as how best to pool resources with neighbors to create a sense of community and hospitality among the communities served. Each participant will take away recipes, a bag of food to cook the recipes presented, and educational handouts.
