Community Outreach
The Mercy Community’s Mission is not limited to the physical borders of our West Hartford campus. We are committed to promoting wellness and enhancing the quality of life for all people, especially those who are sick, poor, and underserved.
Our community is closely interconnected with the surrounding area and we have a long and rich history of local and global outreach through offerings like our Clinical Pastoral Education Program – a partnership with Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford – and our Global Health Ministry Program (GHM).
Global Health Ministry Program
Global Health Ministry (GHM) provides health care services, health education, and health programs that improve the lives of those who are poor and underserved in communities in the developing world, transforming those communities as well as the volunteers who serve. The Mercy Community’s colleagues are eligible to apply to GHM for service opportunities.
A Regional Health Ministry (RHM) of Trinity Health, Inc. Global Health Ministry maintains three divisions:
- Global Health Volunteers, a volunteer program open to all Trinity Health, Inc. colleagues. Volunteers serve on missions in developing countries, providing medical/surgical care and health education services. Volunteers include clinicians, support staff administrators, and board members; all colleagues are invited to apply to serve on a team.
- Global Health International Support Services, connecting resources to needs of international ministry partners (including partners formerly served by Trinity Health International).
- Marshall Islands Health Care, a federally funded program supporting health care needs of Marshall Islands residents (formerly managed by THI). This program is officially known as 177 Health Care Program for Citizens of the Marshall Islands.
Over the past 25 years, hundreds of Trinity-sponsored colleagues have enjoyed life-changing experiences by giving of their time and talents to people in need in faraway lands. Please visit the Global Health Ministry web site at www.globalhealthvolunteers.net to find out more about volunteering for a medical mission in 2015. You can apply online, read about colleague experiences on previous medical missions, and learn more about GHM mission sites.
