About Us

Whether you’re looking for independent or assisted living, Woodland Village provides older adults with the freedom, lifestyle, and wellness offerings they deserve.  At Woodland Village, we focus on invigorating residents’ minds, bodies, and spirits through activities, social events, healthy and delicious dining options, luxurious and comfortable private apartment homes, and high-quality health care as needed.

Conveniently located on the Trinity Health-Brighton campus, Woodland Villlage’s campus is a scenic oasis.  Enjoy gardening or bird watching on our grounds, invite family, lifelong and new friends to meet you in one of our comfortable indoor spots, or venture out to nearby shops, libraries, museums, restaurants, or music or sports venues to be part of all the fun you can find in Brighton.

History and Mission

woodland village exterior

Woodland Village boasts all the beautiful vistas of its former life. In 1927, Woodlands Golf course opened and was a local favorite for more than 70 years.  After the course closed in 2000, Mercy Continuing Care purchased the property and began construction on a retirement community. In September 2001, the community opened as The Village at Mercy Health Center.

The two-floor property offers more than 70,000 square feet of community gathering and dining spaces and a total of 88 private residences. Each apartment has a kitchen or kitchenette, private bathroom, and scenic view of the surrounding woodland.  The property also features a paved walking path that has not changed since golf carts traveled it throughout the day.

Just a few years after opening as an independent and assisted living community, Trinity Health purchased the community and named it Sanctuary at Woodland. Today, its name is Woodland Village.  Rich in history, purpose, and vision, this is a very special place for older adults to call “home.”
